Bedard Goes #1 to Chicago

I will lead with this, I know very little about hockey but I enjoy watching it if I don’t control the remote. This evening was the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, and like the NBA Draft there was little to no debate on who was going number one. Connor Bedard aka“The Beda-phile” was taken first overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. The 17 year old has turned a lot of greased mullet heads in the league with his other worldly shooting. According to this TSN video his ability to shoot the puck 2 fast and 2 furious is credited to his broken wrist he sustained in 2017. His practice consisted of training shooting backhands with his lone good hand, and through time he developed a tremendous amount of power. When his injury to his other hand healed his shot took a gigantic leap, which gave him that look at the pro-level.

Don’t you love it when movies come to life. This is just the hockey version of Rookie of the Year. Kid breaks his arm, it heals well and then he can throw/shoot like a pro. Sure there’s some gaps in there but with a broad stroke it is essentially the same thing. If anything it might be better, it is hockey he can’t really imitate the stupid lob pitch they do at the end of Rookie of the Year to strike that dude out. If he does something remotely close to that then maybe a blind cross check is warranted. Only time will tell though, I can’t wait to see what he does in this league.
